About Our School
Gracie Barra Boston carries on the Gracie Barra legacy seen at hundreds of schools across the world. Head instructor Alexandre Costa brings a wholesome and positive philosophy to BJJ. Alexandre upholds the belief that Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense training should be fully preventional. We teach martial arts so students are prepared to defend themselves, but hope they never find themselves in the need to do so, similar to car airbags’ purpose. Alexandre’s philosophy took him to great heights, including mentoring Boston Celtics NBA Champion head coach Joe Mazzulla. All of our students receive that same mentorship and guidance from Alexandre and our instructors. Join us and find your self-development on and off the mat!
Our History
Gracie Barra Boston opened over a decade ago with head instructor Alexandre Costa leading the way. Alexandre has practiced martial arts for 40 years, beginning as a six-year old in Brazil to help with his health issues. This led him to make martial arts his life, moving to the United States to carry on the lessons he learned. Even as a five-time world champion, Alexandre most prides himself in making people better. This includes Boston Celtics NBA Champion head coach Joe Mazzulla, who went to him for guidance from martial arts once he became head coach. Alexandre continues to help people better themselves through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu every day at Gracie Barra Boston.
